ABOUT ACCREDITATION

Accreditation is evaluation of the quality of higher education institutions and programs. It is a major way that students, families, employers and government officials know that an institution or program provides a quality education. Being accredited is important for a college, university, or program because:

  • Students wishing to apply for grants and loans are required to attend a college, university, or program that is accredited.
  • Employers seek candidates from accredited college, university, or program is accredited and also ask of the accreditation status before deciding to provide tuition assistance to current employees.
  • In order to be eligible for federal grants and loans or other federal funds, the government requires that a college, university, or program be accredited.
  • The authorities require accredited programs to allow students to sit for licensure examinations in various professional fields.
